Australian Forum for Operational Oceanography 2017 Conference

Date
25/07/2017 - 27/07/2017

The Australian Forum for Operational Oceanography (FOO) is a mechanism for national coordination of operational oceanography in Australia, and an opportunity to influence future directions. It is the forum for:

  • Discussions relating to the implementation of operational oceanography, with a focus on improving the safety and efficiency of marine industries, and
  • Scientific and technical discussions of particular interest to practitioners working in the field, covering observations, data, computation, modelling, analysis, forecasting, and visualisation.

The inaugural event held in July 2015 was very successful, with participants from across 50 organisations and representation from all ‘four pillars’ of the Forum’s stakeholder base – marine industries, service providers, government agencies and research providers.

The themes for this Forum will review progress of FOO since the first event, assess present capabilities and needs, explore uses and users of operational oceanography, and focus on the ‘hot topic’ of marine extremes.
