EuroGOOS contributes to the European Oceans Pact

We are pleased to announce that we have submitted our contribution to the European Commission’s call for evidence on the European Oceans Pact. This initiative aims to promote sustainable ocean management, ensuring the health, resilience, and productivity of our oceans, which are vital to the prosperity of the EU’s coastal communities.

The European Oceans Pact, announced by President von der Leyen in her political guidelines for the 2024-2029 Commission, seeks to foster a holistic approach to ocean governance across all sectors. Its primary objectives include maintaining a healthy and productive ocean, promoting a sustainable and competitive blue economy—encompassing fisheries and aquaculture—and advancing marine knowledge, research, innovation, and investment.

The call for evidence, which concluded on 17 February 2025, invited stakeholders, experts, and citizens to provide input. The feedback collected will inform the development of the European Oceans Pact, which the Commission aims to present at the 3rd UN Ocean Conference in June 2025.

We are proud to contribute to this significant initiative and look forward to the positive impact the European Oceans Pact will have on our oceans and coastal communities.
