News on Horizon 2020 proposal submission

EuroGOOS is very excited that two proposals we are part of have been invited for Grant Agreement Preparation. AtlantOS and COLUMBUS have been favourably evaluated by the European Commission after submission on 26 June 2014.

We wish to congratulate the coordinators and partners for the efforts and look forward to further fruitful collaboration!

A few words about the projects:

AtlantOS – Optimizing and Enhancing the Integrated Atlantic Ocean Observing System

AtlantOS is a project responding to the Horizon 2020 call BG-8-2014: Developing in-situ Atlantic Ocean Observations for a better management and sustainable exploitation of the maritime resources.

AtlantOS is a research and innovation project that proposes the integration of ocean observing activates across all disciplines for the Atlantic, considering European as well as non-European partners. The overarching goal of AtlantOS is the integration of the so far loosely-coordinated set of existing ocean observing activities to a sustainable, efficient, and fit-for-purpose Integrated Atlantic Ocean Observing System (IAOOS). The IAOOS is to form the ocean in-situ observing backbone of the Copernicus Marine Monitoring system.

If you are a legal entity wishing to support AtlantOS through complementary activities, you can register on the website.

COLUMBUS – Monitoring, Managing and Transferring Marine and Maritime Knowledge for Sustainable Blue Growth

COLUMBUS is a project responding to the Horizon 2020 specific challenge BG-11-2014: Monitoring, dissemination and uptake of marine and maritime research.

The overarching objective of COLUMBUS is to ensure that applicable knowledge generated through EC-funded science and technology research can be transferred effectively to advance the governance of the marine and maritime sectors, while improving competitiveness of European companies and unlocking the potential of the oceans to create future jobs and economic growth in Europe.

COLUMBUS has carefully constructed a multi-stakeholder, multi-disciplinary partnership comprising strategic marine and maritime organisations with past experience, relevant mandates and extended networks. The COLUMBUS Consortium is made up of 27 Partners across 15 countries.
