Copernicus Marine Projects Coordinator position at UK Met Office

The UK Met Office has announced a job opening for a Scientific manager role to work on Copernicus Marine Projects within the Ocean Forecasting Research & Development (OFR&D) group in Exeter, UK. The Met Office expect to be a significant contributor to the Copernicus Marine Service, the operational continuation of the EU MyOcean Marine Service, through coupled Global model forecasts and SST/Sea Ice analyses and through the provision of forecast and reanalysis services for the North-West European Continental Shelf.

As well as coordinating the overall Met Office contribution to Copernicus Marine, the post-holder will also lead the Copernicus Marine North-West Shelf (NWS) project (which includes a number of UK and international partners) and lead a small team to undertake the operational transitions of the Forecasting Ocean Assimilation Model (FOAM) configurations for shelf seas.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

1. Good first degree (UK 2:1 or above) in a mathematically or physically based science.
2. An understanding of the science and technical challenges associated with producing an operational forecast.
3. Experience in service delivery in an operational environment.
4. Experience leading scientific/service delivery projects.
5. A willingness to travel frequently in Europe.
6. Strong team working skills.
7. Demonstrated ability to coordinate between people of different backgrounds and role levels (including senior management).
8. Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to produce detailed technical documentation and the ability to chair meetings.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

1. Good background in Marine R&D or relevant geophysical science.
2. Demonstrated experience in leading/project managing large scientific/service delivery projects.
