EuroGOOS Conference: Programme and side-events

The 8th International EuroGOOS Conference, Operational Oceanography Serving Sustainable Marine Development, is taking place in Bergen, Norway, from 3 to 5 October 2017. The programme will include talks spanning the marine information value chain, from data collection, to processing and modelling, as well as services to users and policy advice. 

The opening plenary will feature new and ongoing European ocean observing projects and high-level perspectives of the European Commission and the UNESCO IOC Global Ocean Observing System. A dedicated polar session will tackle EU and international Arctic and Southern Ocean developments. The Kostas Nittis Medal to young researcher will be awarded and the winner will deliver a flash talk. 

The second day will feature 54 scientific talks organized in three parallel sessions spanning the marine data chain. A poster exhibition will also take place at the venue. 

Finally, on the last morning of the conference, the plenary will address new technologies, discuss societal and policy drivers to enhanced ocean observing and services, and look ahead. 

Two side events of the conference are confirmed: 

  • ENVRIplus side event: Marine monitoring and data capture for multidisciplinary research: the ENVRIplus approach – Monday 2 October, 15.00-18.00
  • Jerico-Next side event: Assimilating technical best practice improvements to optimize network data flow – Thursday 5 October, 13.50-18.30
