The Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center, NERSC, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. It was registered in November 1986 as a scientific foundation founded by the Research Foundation at the University of Bergen (UNIFOB), GC Rieber and the US oil company Tenneco.
At the scientific seminar organized on the occasion of the anniversary, topics of global relevance will be addressed by European ocean observing experts. Glenn Nolan, EuroGOOS Secretary General, will deliver a talk on the development of an integrated and sustained European Ocean Observing System, EOOS.
The Nansen Center is a member of EuroGOOS. The organization is centrally involved in European basic and applied research and research coordination projects. The Nansen Center vision is to serve the society through advancing knowledge on the marine environment and climate system in the spirit of Fridtjof Nansen, a Norwegian explorer, scientist, diplomat, humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
