Joint AtlantOS – AORA projects workshop

Date
02/11/2016 - 04/11/2016

The Horizon 2020 AtlantOS and AORA projects are organising this joint workshop on strategies, methods and new technologies for a sustained and integrated autonomous in-situ observing system for the Atlantic Ocean.

The event will focus on the AtlantOS cross-cutting tasks and discuss technological innovation activities with the enhancement of the Atlantic network of autonomous observing systems, fixed and mobile. The AORA project will present an overview of the strategies across the Atlantic and help observing networks align with the requirements of the EU-US-Canada Galway Statement on on Atlantic Ocean Cooperation signed in 2013.

Specific objectives of the workshop are to:

  • Contribute to the integration of European and international activities;
  • Discuss challenges and opportunities to better integrate and enhance the network of autonomous observing systems;
  • Initiate planning of a joint experiment, from the Central Atlantic and beyond, to showcase key concepts towards efficient infrastructure sharing;
  • Produce recommendations for the AtlantOS task to deliver a blue print for an integrated Atlantic ocean observing system;
  • Identify training and knowledge transfer needs and opportunities.
