Sustainable Operational Oceanography
Sopot, 4-6 October 2011
EuroGOOS is pleased to announce the publication of the proceedings of the 6th international Conference, held in Sopot, Poland 4-6 October 2011.
It was two and a half years ago, when an enthusiastic audience of scientists, engineers, technical experts, policy makers and administrators, representatives from the public sector as well as from industry, from all parts of Europe and other parts of the world, convened at Hotel Haffner, Sopot, Poland for the 6th EuroGOOS Conference.
The Conference’s main theme was sustainability in operational oceanography. In his introductory speech Prof. Dr. Peter Ehlers, EuroGOOS Chair at the time, said: “Considering the importance which the oceans and the coastal waters have and will have even more in the future, there is a most compelling need to improve our understanding by collecting, processing and managing all data needed for describing the processes, to make the data accessible to all who need them for planning and decision making, and to provide forecast services for a broad range of applications.”
The papers included in the proceedings are presented in the following groups:
- Real-time observations from ocean and space
- Operational Oceanography for climate monitoring and impact
- Nowcasting, forecasting and re-analysis
- Operational coastal services
- Oil-drift forecasting services
- Monitoring and modelling marine biogeochemical processes
