International Conference on Marine/Maritime Spatial Planning

Date
15/03/2017 - 17/03/2017

The European Commission DG MARE and IOC UNESCO are jointly organising this event to take stock of the latest developments and to discuss how to achieve and accelerate successful Marine/Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) worldwide.

The conference will explore the role of MSP in addressing global challenges (among others, climate change, safety, food, and ocean governance), and sustainable blue economy. International experts will share experiences worldwide.

The event’s specific objectives include:

  • Spread knowledge on specific themes: ecosystem approach, cross-border MSP, stakeholder engagement;
  • Spread knowledge on the process itself: MSP drivers and goals, scope and design;
  • Build trust among actors and create a shared vision.

Ocean observing in general and operational oceanography in particular are critical in delivering information and services for MSP. EuroGOOS will showcase European initiatives delivering information for maritime spatial planning at a dedicated exhibition stand. Dina Eparkhina will present the stand and attend the conference for EuroGOOS.
