The Copernicus Marine Service has launched the 8th edition of the EU Copernicus Ocean State Report (OSR 8) and its summary for policymakers. It is coordinated by Mercator Ocean International and funded by the European Union.
This edition highlights record-breaking extreme events, including unprecedented marine heatwaves, an extreme phytoplankton bloom, and increased warming. It also showcases several key innovations, including advanced wave analysis, and a promising way to extract thermal energy from the ocean during winter.
