The months ahead offer a busy calendar of conferences, workshops and policy events across the ocean community. Below, we highlight a selection of upcoming events taking place between September and December 2026 that may be of particular interest to the European ocean observing and operational oceanography communities, covering topics ranging from ocean observation and forecasting to marine biodiversity, technology, governance and science communication.

EOV Network Flyer

EuroGOOS is pleased to announce the publication of a new flyer introducing the EOV Network, bringing together three Horizon Europe projects, ObsSea4Clim, BioGeoSea, and BioEcoOcean, to promote collaboration and alignment around Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs) across scientific domains. 

Researchers, innovators and organisations working in the blue economy are invited to apply for the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership (SBEP) Rolling Transnational Access Call to Research Infrastructures (2026–2028). The call offers access to a unique network of marine and maritime research infrastructures across Europe, supporting cutting-edge research and innovation for a more sustainable blue economy.

The European Commission has adopted its first dedicated strategies for islands and coastal communities, establishing a coordinated EU approach to address their specific challenges and unlock their long-term potential. The initiatives aim to strengthen economic opportunities, connectivity, resilience and quality of life for the 17 million people living on EU islands and the 95 million people residing in coastal areas.
