Copernicus In Situ Strategy 2028–2034

The Copernicus In Situ Strategy 2028–2034 has been released, setting the direction for the evolution of the In Situ Component through the next Multiannual Financial Framework and towards Copernicus 3.0.
Developed through an extensive co-creation process involving the European Commission, Copernicus Entrusted Entities, Member States and Cooperating Countries, the Strategy sets out a long-term vision for securing the high-quality in-situ data needed by Copernicus.
It is built around five strategic priorities: ensuring data remain fit for purpose, strengthening cooperation, promoting FAIR and open data, improving coordination and efficiency, and building a resilient and forward-looking in-situ data ecosystem.
The Strategy reinforces a key message: the future of Copernicus depends not only on satellites, but also on the in-situ data and the organisations, programmes and networks that provide them.
