2027 Ocean Decade Conference: Calls for Individual Sessions and Side Events Now Open

14 October 2026

The 2027 Ocean Decade Conference, taking place from 7 to 9 April 2027 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has officially opened its calls for Individual Sessions and Conference Side Events.

As part of Ocean Decade Week, Pre-Conference Special Events will take place on 5 and 6 April 2027, bringing together the global ocean community to exchange knowledge, strengthen partnerships and advance the goals of the UN Ocean Decade.

EuroGOOS is co-leading Special Event 6, “Ocean Information and Services: From Global Ambition to Regional Action”, together with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), Mercator Ocean International and the National Institute for Ocean Research (INPO).

The Special Event will explore how ocean observations, operational forecasting and digital services can better respond to societal needs and support sustainable development, connecting global ambitions with regional action.

EuroGOOS will lead the session on ocean observations, addressing physical, biogeochemical and biological observations, gaps in observing systems, sustainability and coordination across regional and global networks. EuroGOOS will also contribute to the session on regional implementation, focusing on governance, partnerships and investment in ocean information and services.

Organisations and stakeholders worldwide are invited to propose Individual Sessions that contribute to the Special Event's objectives and the wider Conference programme.

The deadline for Individual Session applications is 8 November 2026 at 23:59 UTC.
