EuroGOOS and the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) welcome the European Commission's OceanEye initiative as a major step for strengthening Europe's contribution to global ocean observation and intelligence

The Svalbard Integrated Arctic Earth Observing System (SIOS) has announced the opening of its 2026 SIOS Access Call. The call aims to support more efficient use and integration of Arctic observing systems by providing funded access to research infrastructure owned by SIOS member institutions.

We are pleased to share the Statement of the 11th EuroGOOS International Conference, held in Larnaca, Cyprus, from 18–20 May 2026 under the theme "Stronger Together" and kindly hosted by the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI).

The DITTO Summit 2026, the flagship international event of the Digital Twins of the Ocean (DITTO) programme under the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, will take place on 11–13 November 2026 in Yokohama, Japan. Bringing together researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and technology innovators, the Summit will explore operational and interoperable digital twins that support ocean protection, climate resilience, sustainable governance, and blue economy innovation

The European Commission has officially adopted OceanEye, a new initiative designed to strengthen Europe's role in ocean observation and position the European Union as a global leader in ocean intelligence.

Our member, the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) has announced the opening of applications for the 16th edition of its Glider School, the leading hands-on ocean-glider technology training forum, scheduled to take place at PLOCAN headquarters from 19 to 23 October, 2026. The application window runs until 30 June.

 The European Commission has launched a new call for proposals with co-funding of up to €300,000 to support awareness-raising initiatives focused on Arctic communities, including youth and indigenous people. The call is funded under the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF).

EuroGOOS is participating in EMD2026 in Limassol together with the sister projects BioEcoOcean, ObsSea4Clim, and BioGeoSea at the joint exhibition booth. Together, the projects highlight how collaboration and innovation in ocean observing can support science, policy, and a sustainable blue economy. The 11th EuroGOOS International Conference officially opened on 18 May 2026 in Larnaca, Cyprus, bringing together the ocean observing and operational oceanography community under the theme “Stronger Together”.

A new Copernicus video highlights how the In-Situ Component brings together global observation networks to support satellite data and services, with coordination led by the European Environment Agency, showcasing its essential role in delivering reliable information and real benefits for society.

The Blue-Cloud 2026 project is holding its Final Conference on 28 May 2026 at Comet Louise in Brussels. The event will run from 09:00 to 19:30 and bring together representatives from the research, infrastructure, and policy communities working in the European ocean data space.
