Polar Argo Workshop 2026 — Call for Abstracts Now Open
22 January 2026
The Polar Argo Workshop 2026 will take place in June 2026 and will focus on advances and future directions for Polar Argo observations and their role in monitoring high-latitude oceans. The call for abstracts is now open.
Objectives
The workshop will address the implementation of the Polar Argo array within the OneArgo framework. It will review recent scientific advances in both hemispheres and highlight scientific motivations for future full-scale deployment, particularly in the Arctic Ocean and Polar Marginal Seas. The workshop will also cover synergies with modelling, satellite, and other observing systems, as well as technical aspects related to float technology, data management, and protocols.
Call for abstract (talk or poster)
The abstracts should address the general scientific topics of the workshop :
- Scientific studies based on Argo observations in the polar regions (covering the two hemispheres)
- Scientific requirement for Argo monitoring the Arctic, including OHC and FWC and Arctic Ocean circulation from large to small scale,
- The Polar Marginal seas of both Hemisphere are addressed, including their implication in the global ocean circulation and climate,
- The fit for purpose Arctic and Polar marginal seas design,
- progress in float technology, float geolocalization software and hardware ice detection, as well as data processing tools and quality control protocols,
- Link with other observing system communities, modelling & satellite community needs and recommendations.
