GOOS Call for Applications: OCG Vice Chair Data & Information

The Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) is inviting applications for the position of Vice Chair Data & Information within its Observations Coordination Group (OCG). The deadline for applications is 20 September 2026.

As the global lead for ocean observing coordination, GOOS works with regional and national observing systems and global ocean observing networks to strengthen the coordination and implementation of sustained ocean observations. EuroGOOS contributes to this global effort as the European component of GOOS.

The GOOS Observations Coordination Group coordinates across the global ocean observing networks and supports the implementation of GOOS and relevant aspects of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) observing systems.

The new Vice Chair Data & Information will coordinate data management activities of relevance to GOOS, working across its ocean observing networks and connecting with relevant WMO and IOC strategies and systems, as well as biological and ecological data flows overseen by the GOOS BioEco Panel.

A key responsibility will be to guide GOOS Observing Networks towards implementation of the OCG Cross-Network Implementation Strategy, helping strengthen coordination and interoperability of ocean observing data and information across networks.
