European Commission launches two Calls for Evidence on the future Ocean and Water Research & Innovation Strategy

7 July 2026

The European Commission has launched two Calls for Evidence to support the development of the future European Ocean and Water Research & Innovation (R&I) Strategy, due to be adopted by the end of 2026.

The two consultations focus on:

  • Ocean Research & Innovation, covering priorities such as marine ecosystems, ocean observation, marine knowledge and the sustainable blue economy.
  • Water Resilience Research & Innovation, addressing freshwater systems, water resilience, water efficiency and innovative solutions for sustainable water management.

The future strategy aims to strengthen Europe's leadership in ocean and water science, improve coordination across research and innovation programmes, accelerate the uptake of innovative solutions, and support the implementation of the European Ocean Pact and the EU Water Resilience Strategy.

Researchers, innovators, policymakers, public authorities, industry, NGOs and citizens are invited to contribute their views. Both Calls for Evidence are open until 2 August 2026 through the European Commission's Have Your Say portal.
