EuroGOOS Arctic ROOS Respond to the EU Arctic Policy Call for Evidence
16 March 2026
EuroGOOS and its Arctic Regional Ocean Observing System (Arctic ROOS) have submitted a joint response to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on the update of the EU Arctic Policy. The contribution highlights the importance of sustained, coordinated, and science-driven Arctic Ocean observations to support effective governance, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
Rapid changes in the Arctic influence climate systems, weather hazards, food security, and economic activities far beyond the region. EuroGOOS and Arctic ROOS therefore emphasise that a strengthened EU Arctic Policy should place comprehensive knowledge of the Arctic Ocean at its core.
EuroGOOS, through Arctic ROOS, brings extensive operational expertise across Arctic basins and stands ready to support the development of a stronger, science-based EU Arctic Policy.
