EuroGOOS and EOOS submit feedback to the European Ocean Research & Innovation Strategy consultation
13 August 2026
EuroGOOS and EOOS have submitted their feedback to the European Commission's consultation on the European Ocean Research & Innovation Strategy, contributing to the development of a strategic framework that will guide future ocean research, innovation, and knowledge generation across Europe.
The European Ocean Research & Innovation Strategy aims to strengthen Europe's capacity to generate the knowledge, technologies, and services needed to support a sustainable and resilient ocean. The strategy is expected to help coordinate research and innovation investments, foster collaboration across sectors and disciplines, and ensure that science-based solutions support the objectives of the European Ocean Pact and broader European policy priorities.
The EuroGOOS contribution was prepared with the active involvement of its Members, whose expertise in operational oceanography helped shape key messages and recommendations. The feedback highlights the importance of sustained investment in ocean observing and forecasting systems, data management, and the operational services needed to support evidence-based decision-making.
The EOOS contribution was developed by the EOOS Steering Group, bringing together perspectives from across the European ocean observing community. The submission emphasises the critical role of an integrated and sustained European Ocean Observing System in underpinning research, innovation, policy implementation, and the delivery of actionable ocean knowledge.
