Copernicus In-Situ in a Nutshell: New Video Now Available

27 April 2026

As a partner in the COP IDEA, EuroGOOS is pleased to share a new video highlighting the importance of the Copernicus In-Situ Component.

The Copernicus In-Situ Component brings together a global network of monitoring systems on land, in the air, and at sea, alongside geospatial data from a wide range of regional, national, and international providers. These in-situ observations play a vital role in the generation, calibration, and validation of Copernicus satellite data, products, and services—ensuring their accuracy and reliability.

The European Environment Agency leads the cross-cutting coordination of Copernicus In-Situ. Its work focuses on mapping in-situ requirements, identifying data gaps, and engaging with data providers to address these needs.

This new video offers a clear overview of how these efforts come together and demonstrates how in-situ observations enable Copernicus to deliver tangible benefits for society.

We invite you to watch the video and learn more about the system behind Copernicus services.
