ArORA Plan and Implementation Strategy Published

The Arctic Ocean Regional Alliance (ArORA) Plan and Implementation Strategy has been published on Zenodo, marking an important step towards strengthened international coordination of sustained Arctic Ocean observing.

The ArORA Task Team, established in 2023, is working towards the development of an Arctic regional alliance that brings together the diversity of sustained ocean and sea-ice observing activities across the Arctic. Formally recognised by both the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) and Sustaining Arctic Observing Networks (SAON), the initiative aims to connect the full ocean observing value chain – from observations and data to information and benefits for users.

A central ambition of ArORA is to develop an inclusive framework that responds to the needs of the diverse rights holders, stakeholders and actors involved in Arctic observing, including Arctic Indigenous Peoples and coastal communities.

The newly published “ArORA – The Arctic Ocean Regional Alliance Plan and Implementation Strategy” sets out the proposed direction and implementation approach for this future alliance.

The Task Team is co-chaired by Craig Lee and Anna Nikolopoulos, with EuroGOOS’ Manuel Sala Perez serving as Coordinator.

The publication is hosted in the new Arctic Ocean Regional Alliance (ArORA) Task Team Zenodo Community, providing a dedicated space for ArORA documents and future outputs.
