WIGOS RRR- Statement of Guidance release - webinar
Date: 26 May 2026 - 26 May 2026
Type: Virtual
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) will host the webinar “WIGOS Rolling Review of Requirements – Release of the Statements of Guidance (SoGs)” on 26 May 2026 from 12:00 to 13:30 UTC.
The webinar will present and discuss the recently published Statements of Guidance for Atmospheric, Oceanic and Cryospheric Applications, developed under the WIGOS Rolling Review of Requirements (RRR) framework.
The WIGOS RRR is a continuous, user-driven process designed to ensure that global observing systems evolve in response to changing needs in weather, climate, water and environmental services. Its key output — the Statements of Guidance — provides consensus-based recommendations for sustaining and improving observing systems, helping to ensure that observations remain relevant, efficient and capable of delivering tangible societal benefits.
The session will include welcome remarks from representatives of the ocean and cryosphere communities, followed by presentations on the purpose and intended use of the SoGs, user perspectives on contributing to and benefiting from the WIGOS RRR process, and key recommendations from the newly released SoGs.
Among the featured presentations:
- SoG Atmospheric Applications – Erik Andersson (ESAC Atmosphere Coordinator)
- SoG Oceanic Applications – Emma Heslop (ESAC Ocean Coordinator)
- SoG Cryospheric Applications – Jeff Key (ESAC Cryosphere Coordinator)
The webinar will conclude with an open discussion and closing remarks led by Michel Jean (P-INFCOM).
