Training Module 7: Sea Ice Loss Observation, Validation and Climate Indicators (ObsSea4Clim)

The Training Module 7: Sea Ice Loss Observation, Validation and Climate Indicators, organised by the ObsSea4Clim project, will take place on 24 September 2026 (11:00–12:00 CEST).

The module focuses on Sea Ice Concentration (SIC) and derived indicators such as sea ice extent and open water days, including examples of how SIC data propagate into these indicators. It also introduces Sea Ice Surface Temperature (IST), including new datasets, validation methods, and derived indicators such as cold spells. Finally, the module introduces Sea Ice Age as a derived climate indicator and discusses its relevance for monitoring sea ice loss and climate change.

The training will be led by experts in the field and will include opportunities for discussion and questions.
