SEACLIM Science Highlights Webinar: Ports and Climate Change Adaptation

Date: 25 March 2026 - 25 March 2026

Type: Hybrid

The SEACLIM project is organising its first Science Highlights Webinar, focused on ports and adaptation to climate change. The hybrid event will take place in Madrid on 25 March 2026 (09:30–10:30 CET), with a limited number of in-person participants and live online streaming.

Ports are essential infrastructures for global trade and the blue economy, yet they are increasingly exposed to climate-related risks such as sea-level rise, storm surges, changes in wave climate, and evolving coastal hazards. Strengthening their resilience requires forward-looking planning that integrates future climate conditions.

This webinar will explore how climate projections, oceanographic data, and coastal hazard assessments can support climate risk analysis and adaptation planning for ports.

The session will feature two expert perspectives:

  • Javier López Lara (IH Cantabria) will present how climate projections and oceanographic downscaling can inform climate risk assessments for port infrastructure and operations.
  • Antonio Góngora Zurro (Puertos del Estado) will discuss how operational oceanography and monitoring systems support Spanish ports and how climate considerations are being integrated into long-term port risk planning.

Agenda

  • 09:30–09:35 — Welcome
  • 09:35–09:55 — Javier López Lara (IH Cantabria)
  • 09:55–10:15 — Antonio Góngora Zurro (Puertos del Estado)
  • 10:15–10:30 — Q&A

Participation is free, but registration is required for online attendance. The webinar will also be recorded and made available afterwards.
