Date: 24 March 2026 - 27 March 2026
Type: In-Person
CNR-ISMAR, together with leading European and international partners, is organising the International Symposium “Transformative Ocean Sciences – The Ocean Pact in Action”, which will take place in Venice, Italy, 24–27 March 2026. The Symposium will bring together around 100 invited participants, including senior scientists, policymakers, innovators, and early-career researchers, to co-design the future directions of ocean science and governance. Attached are two documents with the concept note and symposium programme.
The event will address key themes such as ocean observation, deep-sea exploration, biodiversity, ethics, transdisciplinarity, marine education, skills for the future workforce, and the role of science in shaping the European Ocean Pact. A core component of the Symposium will be a series of interdisciplinary Breakout Working Groups, where participants will collaboratively identify grand challenges, innovative approaches, and concrete priorities that will directly feed into a White Paper, Policy Brief, and Strategic Roadmap for future ocean research and policy.
