HF Radar + AI: Exploring New Frontiers in Coastal Monitoring

Date: 5 October 2026 - 8 October 2026

Type: In-Person

The international workshop “HF Radar + AI: Exploring New Frontiers in Coastal Monitoring” will take place in Barcelona from 5 to 8 October 2026, bringing together leading scientific and operational institutions from around the world to discuss the latest developments in High Frequency Radar, coastal observation and artificial intelligence. The event is organised by ICATMAR/ICM-CSIC, CODAR and QUALITAS and will be held at ICM-CSIC in Barcelona.

The workshop will provide an international forum for sharing advances, operational experiences and emerging approaches in HF radar, while exploring new synergies with AI, numerical modelling and maritime intelligence. The programme will address topics ranging from national HF radar networks and ocean forecasting to data assimilation, quality control, marine navigation and applications supporting coastal management and maritime safety.

The HF Radar Task Team will be represented at the workshop by its Chairs, who will contribute to the technical programme and discussions. In particular, Julien Mader, European HF Radar Task Team leader and Director of Marine Technologies at AZTI, will present “What’s new in European HF Radar? Strategy, priorities, latest activities & next steps”, providing an overview of current developments and future priorities for the European HF radar community
