BlueAdapt Final Conference: Climate Change & Health – Building Resilience and Reducing Risks in Coastal Environments

Date: 22 September 2026

Type:

The BlueAdapt Final Conference, "Climate Change & Health: Building Resilience and Reducing Risks in Coastal Environments", will take place on 22 September 2026 at TownHall Europe in Brussels.

The agenda and registration link are available here.

As climate change increasingly affects Europe's coastal and water environments, understanding and addressing its impacts on health has become more important than ever. Rising temperatures, biodiversity loss, pollution, extreme weather events, and changes in water quality are creating new and interconnected risks for people, ecosystems, and local economies.

The conference will bring together representatives from the European Commission, EU agencies, public authorities, researchers, practitioners, and civil society to discuss how Europe can strengthen resilience to climate-related health risks through a One Health approach, recognising the links between human, animal, and environmental health. Discussions will focus on climate adaptation, prevention, and preparedness by strengthening the connections between science, policy, and practice.

BlueAdapt is a Horizon Europe project exploring how climate change affects health in coastal environments and identifying practical adaptation measures. At the conference, the project will present its key findings and recommendations for policymakers and practitioners. As part of the European Climate and Health Cluster, BlueAdapt contributes to advancing research on climate-related health risks and adaptation pathways.

The programme will cover a range of topics, including:

  • Climate change, pollution, antimicrobial resistance, and emerging health risks in coastal environments;
  • One Health and systems-based approaches to adaptation and resilience;
  • Nature-based and ecosystem-based solutions for healthier communities;
  • Building resilient water systems and reducing health risks through effective governance and prevention;
  • The implications of current and emerging EU policy frameworks, including the EU Climate Adaptation Strategy, the European Water Resilience Strategy, the Zero Pollution Action Plan, and related climate resilience and public health initiatives.

Those interested in attending are encouraged to register early, as places are limited.
