The SCAR Open Science Conference is the premier gathering of the international Antarctic research community. It brings together scientists from across disciplines and countries to present their latest research, foster collaborations, and actively contribute to SCAR's scientific programmes and activities.
SCAR and the Norwegian Polar Institute warmly invite participants to the 12th SCAR Open Science Conference and its associated meetings and side events, taking place in Oslo, Norway, from 8–19 August 2026, under the theme:
"Diving into Antarctic Science – Making Waves for the Future."

2026 SCAR Medal Recipients Announced
Recognising excellence in Antarctic and Southern Ocean research, as well as outstanding service to the international Antarctic community, is a key part of SCAR's mission. These achievements are essential to advancing SCAR's vision and fostering international scientific cooperation.
SCAR has announced the recipients of the 2026 SCAR Medals. The medal citations will be presented during the SCAR Medals Award Ceremony, held as part of the Closing Ceremony of the SCAR 2026 Open Science Conference on Friday, 14 August, at 16:00 CEST.
We are delighted to share that our Secretary General, Renuka Badhe, has been awarded the 2026 SCAR Medal for International Coordination in recognition of her exceptional contribution to the international Antarctic research community.
