Working Groups

EuroGOOS coordinates expert working groups in areas underpinning its objectives, to identify strategies, cooperate, co-produce and promote the operational oceanography value for society.

Biological Observations Working Group

The EuroGOOS Biological Observations Working Group (BIOWG) works to better integrate biological observation into the EuroGOOS framework. They will contribute to the EuroGOOS 2030 strategy and aims to achieve a cultural change in biological observation from individual efforts into an integrated, and coordinated European effort with global impact to further our understanding of life in the ocean and how it interacts with and influences the environment.

Coastal Working Group

The major interface between humans and the ocean occurs in the coastal seas. Marine industries thrive in this area while European citizens make daily use of the coastal ocean for tourism, leisure or recreation. Operational oceanography assists both industry and the general public to make decisions about their use of and access to the coastal ocean.

Data Management, Exchange, and Quality Working Group

DataMEQ Working Group enhances marine data harmonisation, integrates data with CMEMS, EMODnet and other services, and develops standards for effective data management and quality control.

Ocean Literacy Working Group

Ocean Literacy Working Group upscales European efforts in societal engagement in science, raises global awareness, supports Ocean Decade, and fosters partnerships for broader outreach to policy and society.

Science Advisory Working Group

The Science Advisory Working Group provides information and guidance on research priorities to the EuroGOOS community, and supports translation of priorities into new EuroGOOS actions.

Technology Plan Working Group

The Technology Plan Working Group enables exchange on the development and application of new technologies in operational oceanography and ocean observing. It leads the organisation of the biannual EOOS Technology Forum.
