Adriatic Forecasting System

The Adriatic Forecasting System (AFS) is the Italian forecasting system for Adriatic Sea.

The Adriatic Forecasting System (AFS) is a joint effort between CMCC and INGV. Based on POM model, AFS was implemented in Bologna at INGV since 2003. Lately, the forecasting system has been ported and validated by CMCC and is now running on the supercomputers at Lecce premises, with further improvements of the code. The operational chain provides 7 days forecasts for the Adriatic Sea and sub-areas, for the following variables: temperature, salinity, currents, sea surface height, stress wind, heat flux. Moreover, the system provides the vertical profile of the whole Adriatic Sea, displaying the variations in temperature and salinity for the area of interest.
