Euro-Argo is the European infrastructure for argo floats. With the help of Euro-Argo its partners have the capacity to procure and deploy about 250 floats per year, monitor these floats and ensure all the data can be processed and delivered to users (both in real-time and delayed-mode). With a mean float lifetime of 4-5 years, such European contribution would support approximately 1/4 of the global array and provide an additional 50 floats per year for enhanced coverage in the European and marginal seas.

Initially established as a project in 2008, Euro-Argo transitioned to an ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium) in 2014. The following year, Euro-Argo ERIC started acting as a EuroGOOS Task Team (through a memorandum of understanding signed by the two organizations).

Today, Euro-Argo brings together 25 organisations from 12 countries, wishing to optimise their contribution to relevant EU policies, programmes and projects. Euro-Argo enhances the collective ability of the European nations to contribute to the global array while improving the coverage in sea areas of particular European interests.
